Inclusive Education

At Renwick we pride ourselves in providing quality programmes to suit individual needs of students.
Inclusive Education

Te Whare Manaaki is Renwick School's Inclusive Educational Hub.  It operates as an in-school centre to wrap around students with emotional, learning and behavioural needs.

Our two SENCO provide learning programmes to support classroom learning and classroom teachers by:

  • Targeting areas of need in literacy and numeracy with programmes for small groups

  • Supporting Dyslexic learners

  • Providing phonics interventions

  • Adapting the programmes of our ORs students

  • Working with students to develop social skills and build positive relationships

  • Resolving student conflicts using restorative practice frameworks

  • Ensuring support for high health needs students

  • Working alongside teachers when they are developing an IEP (individual learning programme) for identified students.

Te Whare Manaaki provides a calm, safe environment for those students who need to take a break from the classroom to refocus before returning to their learning.

Te Whare Manaaki provides a link between numerous outside agencies:  Resource Teachers of Learning and Behaviour, Resource Teachers of Literacy, Ministry of Education Special Education Services, CAMHS.  Teacher Aides are also supported in their very vital work by Te Whare Manaaki staff.

The pathway for parents to access the services provided by Te Whare Manaaki is through the class teacher and Whanau Leaders.

Special Abilities

In-class provisions cater for all children in each curriculum area. Teachers do this through small group or independent study, higher order thinking skills, learning centres, learning contracts, individual learning programmes and flexible social learning groups.
